Who We Are
The Spirit of Paul McGirr charity works in collaboration with the SMA order in Chainda parish, on the outskirts of Zambia’s capital city - Lusaka. Within the parish there is a large unplanned settlement, which is characterised by high levels of deprivation and poverty and, since 2007, the charity has worked with the SMA order to provide - mainly - labour and materials for substantial infrastructure projects to meet the many needs of the people of the Chainda community. In this sense, the Spirit of Paul McGirr charity is involved in a process of grassroots community development.
The charity has two local volunteers who manage building work and oversee expenditure (respectively) on the ground in Chainda, as well as a team of unpaid volunteers - including members of Paul’s family - based in County Tyrone.
